They Laughed. He Worked.

From a kayak to the top 1%.

Steve Puckett — founder of the Puckett Group, now booking speaking engagements

Twenty-five years of addiction. Sixteen weeks homeless, living in a kayak. Then the climb — to top 1% sales performance across four industries. Steve Puckett doesn't teach theory from a slide deck. He tells the truth about what it cost, and what the climb taught him.

The story no audience forgets

Not a cautionary tale. A construction report — on a man who rebuilt himself the way he builds everything: one honest day's work at a time.

For a quarter of a century, Steve Puckett was losing. Addiction took the jobs, the money, the stability — everything. When he finally hit bottom, his whole life fit inside a kayak. Sixteen weeks on the water. No roof. No plan. Just the next meal and the next morning, survived one at a time.

What happened next wasn't luck and it wasn't a miracle he could lean on — it was work. Quiet, grinding, unglamorous work. Steve clawed his way back into sales, then into better sales, then into rooms where the best in the business worked — and he outworked them. Cars, RVs, insurance, roofing: top 1% performance everywhere he went, plus top-earner status in network marketing. The same discipline that had once been pointed at surviving became pointed at winning.

  1. 1. The Bottom

Twenty-five years of addiction. Sixteen weeks homeless, sleeping in a kayak. Every excuse in the world — and no use for any of them.

  2. 2. The Work

Rebuilt from zero: 22 cars a month — roughly double the national average. 17.2 RVs a month. Top 1% across four sales industries.

  3. 3. The Stage

Now booking: he's bringing that story to the rooms that need it — sales teams, leadership, contractors, recovery, people of faith. The past doesn't get the final word.

About Steve

Steve Puckett is the founder of the Puckett Group and the owner of Puckett Property Solutions, a roofing and storm restoration company based in Southern Illinois. He's a Christian, a fisherman, and a man who once lived in a kayak for sixteen weeks — now taking that story to stages and boardrooms.

His sales record is the spine of his credibility: 22 cars a month as an auto salesman — roughly double the national average — and 17.2 RVs a month as an RV salesman, with top 1% performance across RV, automotive, insurance, and roofing, plus top-earner status in network marketing with Ambit Energy. He's spent more years in roofing sales than anywhere else, including graded insurance work and storm restoration.

His own words: “A man who beat the odds and overcame many challenges — while people were laughing, he was working.”

The comeback isn't just his. His daughter, Jersie Puckett, gets to watch her dad rise — the work is for her, too. Proof, up close, that where you start is not where you have to stay.
